Caring for Others
Christ House
Parish volunteers prepare and serve a lasagna dinner to 70 guests at Christ House Emergency Shelter in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, on the fourth Monday of every month. Volunteers either prepare the meals in their homes and bring to the parish hall kitchen, or transport meals from the parish to Christ House and help serve the guests.

The Closet Team
The Closet Of the Greater Herndon Area is a nonprofit thrift shop in the heart of historic downtown Herndon, Virginia. The Closet was founded in 1974 by a handful of churches to assist low-income families by selling used clothing at nominal prices. Volunteers are needed to organize merchandise and serve customers. Shifts are 2 or 4 hours long.

Hypothermia Shelters
St Thomas à Becket joins host parish St John Neumann and other faith partners in providing overnight housing for up to 70 homeless guests from the non-profits FACETS and New Hope Housing. The shelter operates Sunday thru Sunday the week of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. We prepare and serve a meatloaf dinner (usually Thursday) and may serve dinner on Friday. A variety of other volunteer opportunities occur throughout the week and in advance of the week; signup for these opportunities begins mid-December on a Signup Genius page announced in the bulletin.
